MEMORIAL TO CARLOS EUGENE EASLEY, 1917 - 2008 Please link to Uncle Carlos Eugene Easley's page to view our web site's memorial to our dear relative. It has been truly wonderful to read all of the web comments about my father, Carlos. I feel blessed to have been able to have my mother and father with me for so many years. He truly loved his family, all of his brothers and sisters and each of their extended families. They brought happiness to him. He thoroughly enjoyed working on the genealogy for the last 30 years. For him it was a true labor of love. Thomas Eugene Easley (Carlos Eugene Easley, 'father' - George Woodson Easley) Carlos, was very gratifying to us. Ruby and I are the only two left in George and Della's family. We, like many others thought our dear Carlos "walked on water." Truly, he and Wilma were strong mentors to the town of La Grande Oregon. Their influence over the past sixty years has been remarkable. My daughter, Donna Hall, drove Sammie Ora's daughter, Linda, and myself to La Grande on the 9th of May. and we were fortunate enough to "get there in time" to have just a few hours with Carlos. Although he was heavily sedated, I spent three hours with him, holding his hand and telling him how much we all loved him. He tried to answer, but of course, I couldn't understand what was being said. But, I believe he heard and understood. It was time to go "Home" and he was ready, I am sure. He is singing with the angels, now. To know him was to love him. Marge (Easley) Bennett and Ruby (Easley) Heflin (daughters of George Woodson and Della Jeanette 'Whitton' Easley) My first and lasting memory of Uncle Carlos occurred in 1950, when I was seven years old and he thirty three. They say first impressions are lasting and it was so for me. Aunt Wilma, Uncle Carlos and the two girls were very nice to me at Grandma's and Grandpa's famous family reunion. They were part of my uniquely happy time. Subsequent visits were few and far between. Only in the last five years did I begin to talk with Carlos by phone. It was these conversations that began to give me a glimpse into the man I wish I could have gotten to know better. After seeing the lists of lifetime accomplishments and accolades, I realized ones influence can come in unexpected ways. Jeanette Susan (Arnett) Easley (Lois Woodson, 'father' - George Woodson Easley) The stories told about Carlos in life were full of achievements and of living a positive life. In memorial, it is my honor to praise a life well lived. It is a shame I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but a degree of separation does little to dampen the power of inspiration. Gregory Notz (Sonia Easley 'mother' - Lois Woodson Easley - George Woodson Easley) Our condolences to the children of Carlos Easley. Carlos was an accomplished man and led an eventful and full life. Nichola and Dana Notz (Sonia Easley 'mother' and 'grand-mother' - Lois Woodson Easley - George Woodson Easley) My family and I send our deepest regards to Carlos' family. It's inspiring to know that such an incredibly active and positively productive individual inhabited our family lineage. He's definitely a role-model for positive proactive living. Dustin Feldhaus and Family (Jeanette 'Easley' Feldhaus, 'mother' - Lois Woodson Easley 'grand-father' -George Woodson Easley) He seemed like a very intelligent, giving, loving man, with a lot to be grateful for in his life. Sara Sosebee (Paulette Notz Sosebee 'mother' - Sonia Easley 'grand-mother' - Lois Woodson Easley 'great-grand-father' - George Woodson Easley) So sorry to hear about Carlos, my best wishes to all of the family. Jeff Easley (Richard Easley 'father' - George Cliett Easley 'grand-father' - George Woodson Easley) Through the years I never knew how old Carlos was! He was wonderful to work with on the family tree and clear thinking to the end. God blessed him in his life - God ease the sorrow of loosing a father and friend. I know I'm going to miss him. Linda Whitton Mather (Ralph Whitton 'father' - Tip Whitton 'grand-father', brother to Della Jeanette Whitton Easley) Sorry to hear about Carlos. Although I never met him, I had a real mental image... It felt like I had met him. Sounds like he lived quite a life. Greg Easley (Warren Easley 'father' - George Cliett Easley 'grand-father' - George Woodson Easley) "When I read what Uncle Carlos accomplished, I realized that I have been idle." Cousin Grady Marion Easley (Henry Grady 'father' - George Woodson Easley) Carlos and I began corresponding in the early 80’s when I first started working on my family tree. From day one I felt I had known him all my life. My father spoke of the Easley’s often and with great pride to be part of this wonderful family. Carlos and I never met, yet I feel a deep sense of loss with his passing, he was in my eyes, a wonderful man. Molly Allen (daughter of William 'Bill' Whitton, son of Henry 'Tip' Whitton, brother of Della Jeanette Whitton Easley) _________________________________________________________________________________ "I was born in '28, the oldest of Henry Grady Easley and the oldest grandson of George Woodson Easley. Hello family! Hi Sonia, My name is Sloan (Tucker) Kiefer. We live in the city of Easley, SC. I have been very amateur-ishly looking up my Tucker family history on the internet. I came across your Easley family site. I believe I am related to Captain William Tucker. Your ancestor, Daniel Tucker, was brother to my ancestor, Joseph Tucker. I can't believe the amount of work you put into this research!! It's amazing!! How awesome it is to read about William Tucker - to put a personality on a name. Thank you so much! Dear Sonia, I enjoyed your website about Easleys. There is one more famous Easley to add to the list. Millington Easley was a Revolutionary War soldier. He fought at the battles of King's Mountain, and Mud Lick. He is my gggg grandfather. I do have a history for Millington Easley: My great grandmother is Amanda Florence Easley. Amanda Florence Easley's parents are Drury Easley and Mary Jane Wells, married 1846. Drury's parents are Robert Easley and Elizabeth Earle Reese Elkins. Robert's parents are Millington Easley (the Revolutionary War soldier) and Elizabeth Hart Weddon. Millington's parents are John Easley and Joyce Millington Allen. John Easley is the son of John Easley and Mary Benskin. John is the son of Robert O. Easley and Anne Warham Parker. Robert O. Easley is the son of Henry Easley who was born 1630 [Provence], France. Henry is son of Claude Easley. Claude is son of Jean Easley and Marguerite Prevost. Best regards, Sue suemerrick@yahoo.cpm Good day Sonia, I found your website regarding the Easleys very interesting and stimulating. I am descended (9th generation) directly from Robert Easley and it would seem we are related from the 1st Warham Easley who was born around 1724. I am descended from his son named Warham. Interestingly enough, my father's (Melvin) father was named Warham as well. Not much is known about him though, he showed up had my father and disappeared. My father never talked about him as he was raised by an Uncle. I have run into a road block regarding Jean Esley. But thanks to your research, I am planning a trip to France and looking about. The French original name does give me some more data to do some research on and the coat of arms is very interesting as well. On my mother's side, the Lloyds came over a little later, around 1685 and the Cherokee branch of the family on Mom's side met the boat. I look forward to visiting your website often. Regards, James A.L. Easley March, 2008: It gives me great pleasure to dedicate this web site to my father, Lois Woodson Easley, and to launch the site for family and public access. Please, feel free to send your comments, questions, anecdotes and inquiries. This work is a reflection of several individuals and countless hours of patience and endeavor. This genealogical documentation will never be finished. With warmest regards to all, Sonia Darlene Easley, Descendent and Web Mistress
